There are direct rail links between Budapest and the major capitals and cities of Europe. Over 50 international trains arrive in and depart from Budapest daily. INTERCITY links running between the capital and the major towns around Hungary are extremely popular and comfortable.

A hydrofoil service operates daily on the Danube between Budapest and Vienna, with a stop at Bratislava, from April to November.  International boat landings are situated on the Danube between the Chain Bridge (Lánchíd) and the Freedom Bridge (Szabadság híd).

Public transportation in Budapest is excellent. Budapest and its environs are well serviced by a network of buses, trams, trolleys, and subway lines. Tickets have to be bought before boarding.

Taxies in Budapest compulsory to use yellow registration plates and taximeter, and they also give you a receipt. There are several reliable taxi companies in Budapest.  Avoid private taxies not using yellow plates, try ordering a major taxi company. A taxi ordered by phone is about 15% cheaper than taxies called directly on the street.
